Tim Leishman
Tim Leishman advises professional services firms on strategy and leadership development. He consults primarily with law firms on strategic planning (at the firm, practice group and client team levels), partner compensation, practice management structures and professional development strategy, including recruiting and retention initiatives, competency frameworks, and 360 degree feedback.
Tim is the Managing Director of Firm Leader, which designs customized leadership, management and business development training programs for professional services firms. Tim has developed advanced training programs in practice group leadership, team leadership and matter management, client team leadership, and business development skills. Prior to establishing his consulting practice in 1997, Tim was a partner in a leading Canadian law firm and spent his last three years at the firm in full-time management. He received his LLB from the University of Toronto and BA from the University of Western Ontario. Tim lives with his family in downtown Toronto.

Steve Armstrong
Steve Armstrong led professional development and talent management programs at major law firms for more than 20 years.
During that time, he guided firms to think strategically about managing their talent, with a focus on creating programs, systems and cultures that enable lawyers to do their best work. He has designed and implemented evaluation, promotion and compensation systems; training curricula; leadership development programs; diversity initiatives; associate surveys; and upward evaluations. In recent years, he has designed and taught many programs for partners and associates on managerial and leadership skills.
Steve is a principal of Firm Leader, which provides consulting and training services to law firms, and the principal of Armstrong Talent Development. Previously, Steve served as Director of Career Development for WilmerHale, and in similar roles at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Shearman & Sterling. He has published and spoken widely on the topic of talent management, and has served as chair of the Professional Development Consortium, a professional organization for in-house legal educators, and as co-chair of the American Bar Association Committee on Business Law Education.
Steve also teaches legal writing for judges, law firms and continuing legal education organizations in the U.S. and Canada. He is the co-author of Thinking Like a Writer: A Lawyer’s Guide to Effective Writing and Editing (3rd edition, 2008, Practicing Law Institute).
